The black Russian cocktail is a drink built with vodka and Kahlua liqueur!
Black Russian Cocktail Info
The Black Russian is a simple cocktail that combines vodka with Kahlua (a coffee liqueur made from rum, sugar, and arabica coffee). Gustave Tops, a bartender at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels, created the drink in the late 1940s.
According to the legend, the drink was made for Perle Mesta! An American ambassador. The name refers to the ingredients. Kahlua, which is black, and vodka that is often associated with Russia. (Ignore the fact that Kahlua can be made in Mexico.
The Black Russian cocktail is now less well-known than its successor, White Russian. This version adds cream to its creator. The White Russian was created sometime around the 1960s. It was immortalized in 1998's movie "The Big Lebowski." The Black Russian is not as well-known today, but it's a classic drink that has inspired many innovations. For example, The Mudslide, a White Russian mixed with Irish cream, is the Mudslide. These drinks might not exist today if Tops didn't combine vodka and Kahlua so many years ago.
It's very easy to make the Black Russian, making it a great choice for home mixing. Mix all ingredients together with ice. Strain the liquid into a glass. To make a sweeter drink, you can add more Kahlua to the mix or have less vodka.
